Black Wattle is a slightly softer wood, easier to ignite, and an excellent hot burning firewood which makes a lovely flame! It lasts long and provides a glowing coal.  It also lends itself to occasional braaiing as it creates small residual coals.  As it is a bit harder to find, it is slightly more expensive than blue gum. Used for fireplaces, pizza ovens, potjies and occasional braai.

Most economical burning.  Blue Gum is a hard, dense log from the Eucalyptus family, hard to start initially and is known to burn very hot. A slightly damp blue gum would work great if you are going for longevity rather than heat. It burns longer before creating a fire heart. Also suitable for glass fronted units and perfect for fireplaces and firepits.

One of the best braai woods to take advantage of. Dense and hard so it burns slowly with big flames, intense heat, and long lasting hot coals.  The natural oils which are unique to sekelbos gives a smoky flavour to your braai food because of its aromatic resin.  Also great hardwood for fireplaces as it burns for a long time.  When lighting the sekelbos we recommend you use the small stick pieces that are packed in your bag first and once the fire takes, then start adding the bulkier pieces.
